The stratum corneum what?
Let’s talk about your skins first layer and why we are so obsessed with repairing it!
The stratum corneum is the utmost surface layer of skin that you can touch. It’s the protective layer of skin that determines the way your skin looks & feels…let’s think of it as a brick wall…
Is your skin presenting with any of these characteristics?
- Reactive
- Dry
- Red
- Flaky
- Dull
- Prone to breakouts
It’s most likely your skin barrier is impaired and we need to make it a priority to strengthen your skin cells (brick wall).
How do we do this?
We need to fix the mortar between the bricks. We do this by increasing lipids within the skin which re-establishes skin cell communication, water levels & natural skin cell exfoliation.
Important point to remember about lipids (oil)!
If you leave a cup of water outside in the sun it will evaporate. If you pour a layer of oil on top of this water it stops the water from evaporating.
This is why it is so important to increase healthy lipids in the skin!
So where can you get lipids (oil) from to repair your stratum corneum? Look for skincare that contains the following:
- Phosphatidylcholine
- Ceremides
- Triglyercides
- Squalane
- Sterols
- Fatty acids
